Finding Connection on the Colorado River
Deep in the heart of canyon country, our Purple Hearts headed west for three days of adventure, connection, and time together on the Colorado River. Surrounded by the towering red rock walls and wide-open skies of Moab, Utah, the group embarked on an unforgettable journey.
After flying into Durango, the group traveled together to Moab before launching from Dewey Bridge Boat Ramp and making their way downriver through beginner-level rapids to Take Out Beach.
But the experience was about much more than navigating the river.
Along the way, they camped beneath the stars, shared meals around the fire, took in the quiet beauty of canyon country, and spent time with fellow Purple Hearts who understand where they’ve been and what they’ve experienced.
There was plenty of excitement as the river rushed beneath them, but there was also time to slow down, breathe, laugh, and simply enjoy being together. It’s that balance—adventure and connection, challenge and reflection—that makes a Warrior Bonfire retreat so meaningful.
Our Purple Hearts returned from the Colorado River with memories of breathtaking scenery, shared adventure, and time well spent with people who understand.
A heartfelt thank-you to Adaptive Sports Association of Durango for being such an incredible partner. Their warmth, hospitality, expertise, and enthusiasm helped make this retreat possible and created an experience our Purple Hearts won’t soon forget.
Sometimes healing begins with something as simple as getting outside, sharing an adventure, and finding yourself surrounded by people who understand.
