Adirondack Adventures: Fishing, Friendship, and Fall Colors

Three days. New skills. Wild places. And plenty of time on the water with fellow Purple Hearts.

Our Purple Heart veterans headed to Paul Smith’s College in New York’s breathtaking Adirondack Mountains for three days of fishing, adventure, and camaraderie. With brilliant fall colors, crisp autumn air, and some of the Northeast’s most beautiful wilderness, this Warrior Bonfire retreat offered the perfect setting to step away from everyday life and reconnect with fellow warriors.

New Skills and Adventures on the Water

In partnership with BattleFish Charters LLC, our Purple Hearts enjoyed a variety of fishing adventures, exploring the Adirondacks by pontoon boat, kayak, and canoe, and casting from the shoreline.

Throughout the retreat, participants tried different fishing techniques with fly rods, spinning rods, casting rods, and a variety of bait. Whether learning a new skill or sharing tips with fellow anglers, there was plenty of time to enjoy the water and take in the incredible surroundings.

One highlight was a hands-on rod-building experience, where each participant built a custom spinning rod personalized with their name and the Warrior Bonfire logo. More than just new fishing gear, these rods became lasting reminders of the adventure, friendships, and memories made along the way.

Disconnecting to Reconnect

While the fishing and scenery were unforgettable, the most meaningful moments often happened between adventures.

With limited cell service and plenty of time outdoors, our Purple Hearts could disconnect from everyday distractions and focus on what matters most: spending time with people who understand their experiences.

Whether casting a line, paddling across the water, sharing a laugh, or simply enjoying a quiet moment surrounded by the Adirondack wilderness, the retreat created opportunities for conversations to unfold naturally and friendships to grow.

That’s the heart of every Warrior Bonfire retreat. The activities bring our Purple Hearts together, but shared experiences, understanding, and camaraderie make a lasting difference.

More Than a Fishing Trip
