Finding Flight: A Journey of Clarity on Florida’s East Coast Bonfire Adventure

The retreat brought together six combat-wounded veterans, all unknowingly connected by a common thread—aviation. Whether currently serving in the skies or having a history tied to flight, each of the five members and even our incredible host had aviation in their stories. The coincidence didn’t go unnoticed, especially by one member who was searching for clarity in his next steps.

After our group’s time exploring the Everglades, one Purple Heart asked to stay behind a few extra days to camp and reflect alone. The experience was grounding—surrounded by nature, away from the noise, and immersed in the stillness of the swamp. When it came time for the guide to bring him out of the Everglades by airboat, something remarkable happened: a large flock of birds suddenly took flight, soaring just ahead of them, seemingly leading the way out.

To him, it was more than just a natural occurrence. It was a sign. A moment of clarity. He realized that aviation—whether through flying, supporting aviation programs, or simply being around that world—was calling him. And for the first time in a long time, he felt sure of something: his next chapter.

At Warrior Bonfire Program retreats, moments like this are not rare—they are the heart of what we do. When our members come together in a space of trust, camaraderie, and natural beauty, healing happens. Direction is found. And the next mission in life begins to reveal itself.

We are honored to be a part of that journey.
