The Heartbeat of America: Reflections from Our Wisconsin Turkey Hunt

Nestled in the peaceful beauty of Polk County, this turkey hunt was far more than a weekend in the woods. It was a homecoming. Hosted by a fiercely patriotic community, our Purple Heart recipients were wrapped in warmth, gratitude, and genuine hospitality from the moment they arrived. The stunning spring landscapes, early morning hunts, and shared meals were just the beginning—what truly made this retreat unforgettable were the people who came together to honor and connect with our veterans.
One of our Purple Heart Members, P. Chambers, shared this powerful reflection:
“I have the most incredible feelings of joy and comfort when I reflect on what just occurred over the weekend, and those great memories will continue to resonate in my mind for as long as I have the capacity to remember. Meeting America’s Patriots that support us, the remaining Purple Hearts that walk this earth, has 100% provided me with what must be the only way to find solace in the question ‘was it worth it’?. The Patriots of Polk County, Wisconsin have shown me that ‘absolutely right it was, is, and will always be worth it, as long as this type of American community heartbeat still sustains it’.”
At the Warrior Bonfire Program, we know that healing happens in the presence of shared understanding and purpose. Our retreats are built on this foundation—and this hunt in Wisconsin was a testament to the power of connection, community, and honoring the sacrifice of our nation’s heroes.
To the Patriots of Polk County: thank you for showing our veterans that their courage is not only remembered, but cherished. And to our Purple Heart Members: thank you for continuing to lead with strength, humility, and brotherhood. This Bonfire burned bright.
