The combination of hunting and history turned out to be perfect for facilitating the space for connecting those that understand the sacrifices of service while surrounded by the hallowed grounds of historic battles!
Bonfire Adventure Retreat 209 took place between Chambersburg and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Hosted on Letterkenny Army Depot property and guided by LEAD personnel, our Purple Hearts experienced a remarkable deer hunt with lots of game to take home along with three Euro buck mounts as trophies. The hunt offered more than just a chance to bring home meat for their families, it provided the space to connect, reflect, and heal alongside those who understand the sacrifices of service.
After the hunt the group transferred to walk the hallowed grounds of Gettysburg, where the echoes of bravery and resilience reminded them of the courage and camaraderie that forever binds us with each other and the history of this great nation. Standing on that battlefield, side by side, we felt the power of shared history and the enduring strength of those who serve.
At the heart of the Warrior Bonfire Program is the belief that healing happens together. This retreat was a powerful reminder of that truth. It’s these moments—both in the quiet woods and on the historic fields—that remind us why community and connection are vital to our journey of healing. Here’s to new friendships, shared stories, and carrying the Bonfire spirit forward.
Special thanks to the community of the Chambersburg area. Letterkenny Army Depot, Letterkenny Rod and Gun Club, Still Waters Taxidermy Studio, and Mountain Side Deer Processing. We also extend out continuous gratitude to our partners at Whitetail Warrior Project, Inc. for their sponsorship of this hunt.
